Step inside to the architecture of a disappearing era!  The west wing of our historic home offers a peaceful and private haven exclusively for the use of our guests.  Built by architect William Critchlow Harris in 1878, this wing was an addition to the original loyalist farmhouse, making it a unique composite-style structure that for many years dominated the landscape of the Blue Shank Road in Wilmot Valley, PEI.

Guests enjoy a private entrance to the Inn, where they can choose from three lovely guest  rooms, all with private baths.  Our rooms are also equipped with televisions, telephones, wireless internet, ceiling fans, and windows that actually open to let in the fresh breezes!  A beautiful sitting room is also available for relaxing in and has a selection of games and reading material to choose from.

The Grounds

Many years ago, the Blue Shank Inn was a farmhouse, surrounded by several hundred acres of farmland along the picturesque Wilmot River.

Over the years, the area has been developed, now bordering on Summerside’s City limits, but still considered to be “in the country”.  Our property now consists of 8 ˝ acres in total.  The grounds surrounding the house feature a broad lawn, a variety of large mature trees, and several garden areas including a small planting of hardy varietal grapevines and an ever-increasing herb and vegetable garden.  Guests are invited to stroll about as they wish and to take advantage of outdoor seating areas.

We have adopted many “green” policies regarding our home and gardens here at The Blue Shank Inn.  Our grounds and gardens are chemical free, relying only on compost and some experimental fertilising using seaweed and fish products.  We’ve also been trying seashell mulch around the house, which is very unique to look at!  Our well has beautiful clear water and is tested regularly.  We follow a recycling and garbage disposal system that is Island wide – we feel it is one reason so many travellers comment on how clean and garbage-free our beautiful roadsides are.
